-SONGS, ETC.
Play him, play him,
He weakens,
Strike ! But ere they get it to the shore, He snaps the line, they're baulk'd once more ; Then home they go, the tale is told, That they have caught—
Caught what ?
A cold! O ! the joys of angling ; O the joys of angling.
ANGLING.
Fill'd with the feasts the sun or shower betrays, With insect-food, that falls 'neath Phoebus' blaze, The glutted trout, all dainty grown, refuse The nice device ; or with suspicion views : Except, perchance, when night her curtain throws O'er the dim vale, and husbandman's repose, Some lated angler tries the shrouded deep, Or drops his fly, where noisy currents sweep ; Or the red worm twin'd round the well prov'd hook, In the tree-shadow'd depth of bubbling brook. Yet other dwellers in the watery way, Less cunning grown, become an easier prey ; The silvery dace, disporting in the sun, Darting at gilded palmer, is undone : And grayling, roach, the perch, the gudgeon, beam, Reward t\w skill of us who woo the stream.
